What do I talk about in a therapy session?

You can talk about anything that feels important — big life issues or small everyday frustrations.

What is the difference between medication and psychotherapy?

Therapy works to uncover root causes of distress. An integrative approach combining therapy and medication can be effective.

Is what we talk about in therapy confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is foundational to the therapeutic relationship, with a few legally required exceptions.

What if I don't feel comfortable with my therapist?

It's okay to speak up or seek a different fit — therapy should feel safe and supportive.

How do I get started at New Horizons?

Getting started is simple — reach out through our website, call, or text our office.

Can I use my insurance?

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes — we offer telehealth sessions for clients anywhere in Michigan.

Where are you located?

We have two locations — Ira Township and Port Huron — plus telehealth available statewide.

What are your office hours?

Our front office is available Monday through Thursday, 9am–3pm.

How do I contact the office?

You can call, text, or email us — we're here to help.

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

Your first session is a chance to get acquainted — your therapist will learn about you and help set goals together.

How do I access my client portal?

Your portal is where you manage appointments, forms, billing, and messages.

Do I need to complete forms before my first appointment?

Yes — required intake forms will appear in your portal and must be completed before your visit.

How do I schedule my first appointment?

You can schedule through your client portal or by calling our office.

How do I reschedule or cancel an appointment?

You can manage appointments directly through your portal or by calling the office.

Is there a cancellation policy?

Yes — please cancel at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $50 late cancellation fee.

Will I receive appointment reminders?

Yes — you'll receive email reminders for upcoming appointments and updates.

How do I join my telehealth session?

Log into your portal 5 minutes before your session and select 'Join Session' under Appointments.

How do I view or pay my bill?

Billing is managed through your client portal — you can view statements and make payments anytime.

Where can I find my documents and forms?

All shared files and forms are available in the Documents section of your portal.

How do I send a message to my therapist or the office?

Log into the portal, go to Messages, and click 'New Message' to reach us.

The portal isn't working — what should I do?

Try refreshing, clearing your browser cache, or switching devices. Contact us if the issue continues.
