Our Story

a journey of growth from founder, Roberta Wolschon

For 15 years, I ran a daycare called All About Me, a place where children learned and grew under my care alongside my own young son. It was the foundation for my lifelong journey in supporting families, children, and individuals. What began as a simple daycare soon evolved into something deeper. I wanted to offer more — to create an environment where not only children but also parents... individuals could thrive. I began offering preschool services, seeing firsthand the struggles parents faced. They juggled relationships, parenting challenges, and the ever-present tension of balancing work and life. It was during this time that I realized I could do more than just provide daycare. I could make a difference in the lives of families.

My passion for learning, coupled with my own experiences of loss, burnout, and transformation, has shaped my approach to supporting my community.

I believe that true healing comes from empathy, understanding, and self-care.

About five years into running my daycare, I decided to pursue higher education. I knew that to truly help the families I worked with, I needed to expand my knowledge and skills. I enrolled in college, juggling my daycare/preschool responsibilities with courses in business and early childhood education. It was a challenging time, but I discovered my true passion in early childhood education.

The next chapter of my journey led me to Rochester College, where I completed my Bachelor's in Counseling Psychology in just two years. As I was finishing my degree, I began working at Macomb County Head Start as a behavioral specialist and mental health consultant. My time there, which lasted nine years, was transformative. The work I did at Head Start fueled my passion to continue helping children, families, and individuals, giving me invaluable training and hands-on experience. It also inspired me to pursue a Master’s in counseling, a goal I worked towards while balancing my full-time job, a busy internship, and family life. I graduated in 2008.

The following year, I experienced the heartbreaking loss of my Mom. Soon after, I faced more family illnesses and additional losses that required my attention. It was an incredibly tough period, yet, through the grief and personal turmoil, I found the strength to continue pursuing my dreams. I remained focused on my long-term goal of opening a Counseling Center, a vision that came to life in 2010. The transition to working full-time at the Center was a pivotal moment in my life. It marked not only the fulfillment of a dream but also the beginning of a new chapter, one intertwined with personal change and loss.

In the early days of running my business, I was driven by a desire to help improve the lives of others. I didn’t feel like I had all the answers, but I had a deep passion, training, and experience that I believed could make a difference. There was an optimism in my youthful energy, a belief that if I worked hard enough, I could create positive change. As I grew, so did my understanding of myself. Through facing personal challenges, I found a deeper sense of self-love and self-care. These lessons became a cornerstone of how I supported those who walked through my doors.

The growth of the center has been a family effort from the very beginning. My husband, Mike, has been deeply involved, working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the business thrives. My son, Devin, has held various roles within the center over the years, gaining invaluable experience. Most recently, he has joined the practice as a therapist, continuing the family’s commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Together, their support has been instrumental in shaping the center’s success and impact.

Our center is designed to foster curiosity, empowerment, and opportunity for all who walk through its doors.

I am driven by the belief that growth is a lifelong journey, and I am honored to walk alongside families as they navigate their own.

My journey has been one of constant growth. From a young age, I was driven by a thirst for opportunity and a hunger for personal development that kept me moving forward through life’s challenges. That drive for growth inspired my vision for the center: a place that not only served families but also fostered curiosity, empowerment, and new opportunities for those who entered our community. Community has always been an essential part of my journey, and it’s something that fuels my passion for supporting others.

What truly connects me to my patients is my lived experience. I have walked through the pain of loss, the weight of grief, the exhaustion of burnout, the difficulty of overextending myself, and the cycles of change and growth that come with each of life’s stages. I know what it feels like to face overwhelming challenges, and that empathy allows me to support others with understanding and compassion.

Opening our counseling center wasn’t just the next step in my career — it was the culmination of years of hard work, self-discovery, and a deep commitment to helping others through life’s most difficult moments. As I continue on this journey, I am reminded daily that growth is a lifelong process, both for myself and for those I serve. I am honored to walk alongside individuals, helping them navigate their paths, just as I have navigated mine.
